Thank you for having the confidence in me to your district commander. i have learned much from usps on the journey to this position. i have gained considerable knowledge by taking the usps courses. in fact, i still on that journey. but more than the educational courses, i have learned from the members themselves. many, many, many people give of themselves selflessly to meet the objectives of the organization. from abc to vsc, usps offers something beneficial for every recreational boater, regardless of age, experience, or vessel type. how can we, the district bridge and organization, be of benefit to the squadrons of d 1? there are many thoughts and possible answers to the question. i believe we must be the best we can possibly be at communicating with each other to pass along vital information that is designed to assist every squadron in the organization. i believe in effective communications. asst. secretary bob payette set up a "web log", more commonly called a "blog" to promote more interactive communications. this is a great tool to be used by all to promote two way communications. i don't want a top-down organization. we are not here to talk and not listen. we must listen and listen carefully to our squadrons. in addition to the blog, we have a dynamic informational website and district wide online calendar. we have all the tools we need to communicate effectively. so how can we do a better job of communicating? some ideas become new again after a brief disappearance. i recommending to the district council that we go back to break-out sessions at our council meetings. why? to increase interactive communications between squadrons and district. we are not 13 islands, we are one district. commanders, seo's, admin officers must begin to learn from each other and determine what "best practices" we can learn from each other. i would like to go back to commander and seo breakfasts at the conferences. yes, it's early in the morning but we have to communicate more often with each other to become more effective. we need to make sure key officers attend these council meetings and conferences. we must take our responsibilities seriously. it is sometimes said, we are a volunteer organization and we may expect too much from our volunteers. i don't see it that way. my time is the same as your time. if you accept a position of responsibility, you have a responsibility to perform your duties not when you have time, but when time requires. every person is vital to the success of usps. on a lighter note, as a fraternal boating organization, we also must have fun. boating is fun, or we wouldn't do it. we must show every member the fun side of our organization. what's fun you say? how about the district clay poker chips cheap run? our cruises and rendezvous'? this year, i would like to post all of the events on the website. let's do it. play poker online 3 engaging modes of play await you in this variation on scrabble.
